PS5 Faulty Power Supply Fix Guide

Another sign could be the frequent on-and-off pattern of your console. It means that the console powers on at times but shuts down immediately or within a few minutes. All these signs contribute to a faulty PS5 power supply.

Shutdown Unexpectedly

How To Fix PS5 Faulty Power Supply

Now we have seen some symptoms, let’s take a look at how we can actually fix a faulty PS5 PSU.

Basic Checks

Before drawing any conclusions, try to restart or reset your console.

This is the simplest fix you can try and sometimes works well!

Unplug your console from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and plug it back in to see if it resolves the issue.

You can also try Safe Mode operations like rebuilding the database or restoring the default settings of your console

Check External Elements

At times, the problem isn’t actually the power supply at all, but the external elements including your power wall socket, power cable, or any power supply protectors.

Inspect and make sure that all these external factors are working fine.

Always try another power cable first.

Examine the Console

Try a thorough visual inspection of your console to see if there are any burnt smells or visible scorch marks around the power port on the rear of the PS5

Note: This process is technical and should only be performed by a competent person. NEVER try to open a power supply unit to fix it as it contains dangerous high voltages which could cause harm.

Step 1 – Disconnect all cables and remove the side panels to open the console, and undo the screws around the console. Then remove the black outer housing.

Step 2 – Remove the internal heatshield, motherboard and heatsink.

Step 3 – Remove the PSU from the console carefully.

Step 4 – Remove the faulty PSU and install a new PSU by reversing the removal steps. Make sure that all the connections are done correctly and the PSU is seated properly.
