What is Xbox Error Code 200?

Firstly, what on earth is the Xbox error code 200?

Normally, this is caused by either a failed or interrupted update, and can also be caused by turning off the Xbox at the wrong time.

You may also see some other error codes, such as E200 000000EF 00000000 or even E200 00000074 00000000 – but these all relate to this same Xbox error code 200.

Don’t worry, as stated at the start of this article, there are a number of things you can try at home way before you contemplate bringing your console to us here at consoletherapy.com

Sign out and in again

Ask any computer expert, and they will tell you that turning a machine off and on again can solve nearly any problem.

You can put your Xbox through a hard reset by holding down the power button at the front of your console for 10 seconds, and then simply turning it back on.

Updating Offline

Consoles have moved on since the days of the SNES and PS1, and these days consoles rely on the internet for updates and sometimes seem unplayable without a WiFi connection.

However you can still update an Xbox one without the need to connect to the internet and Xbox live.  Read our full guide on how to perform an offline update here. But to summarise, simply:

  1. On your PC format a USB drive (must be at least 4gb) to NTFS file system.
  2. Download the offline system update file. Unzip and copy the $systemupdate file to your newly formatted USB drive.
  3. Turn on your console while holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 15 seconds. You will hear two startup chimes. Then, the troubleshoot screen will appear.  Now release the bind and eject buttons.  Insert the USB drive into your Xbox One and select ‘offline system update’ using your controller. Your console will then manually update and restart.

Reset Reset Reset

From time to time, the manual update won’t fix every Xbox One facing the error code 200. If this is the case, you might need to take a bit of a different approach.

By following the steps above, access the Troubleshoot menu and hit the ‘Reset the Xbox’ option.

At this stage please do be careful as you will be faced with two options: one to reset everything, and the other will reset and keep your games and apps.

Of course, you ideally will want to choose the later option otherwise you will lose EVERYTHING on your Xbox!

If you choose any of these options you will need to sign back in to your Microsoft account so be sure to have all of your details to hand.

Other Error Codes

There are many System Error EXXX codes on the Xbox, and unfortunately, each have different method of fixing.  Take for example System Error E102 – we created an entire guide on how to fix E102 alone.

If you find that none of the above solutions fix your Xbox, or you don’t have the time to do any of these, then be sure to contact the team here at Console Therapy.
